Our first day trips in the van were great!
The first day we went to the beach! The Solway Coast to be precise. It was amazing being able to open the back doors and just sit and look out at the sea for a while. Karl had took Archie and Leila out for a walk and I just sat there watching the world go by.
I did make a cup of tea, as of course, that is a priority.

The second trip, we went for a drive through Keswick to Borrowdale and up over Honister Pass. We stopped in a pull in at the bottom of the Pass and stayed there till around 2pm. We played by the river and had lunch, it was a great day and we felt really relaxed. We then moved on and went for a drive over Newlands Pass dropping down into Braithwaite. We then went to the view point looking over Bassenthwaite Lake just before Whinlatter Forest.

The next day trip in Betty was good, although we kind of forgot it was the school summer holidays and that everywhere near where we live would be so busy.
We set off from home thinking we would head to the Langdales, the start of the journey was fine, but the closer and closer we got the more and more people were on the roads and they clearly couldn’t handle the narrow lanes. We found no-where to park and decided to go to Ambleside instead. Big mistake, Ambleside was still crazy busy, so we headed up Kirkstone Pass, again very busy. Anyway cutting a long story short we ended up nearly doing a full circle and finally found a spot to stop over night up near Mungrisdale on the Caldbeck Common. Very peaceful and not a soul in sight, just the way we like it.
We realised South Lakes is not the best place to go in the summer holidays when everyone is having ‘Staycations’. You live and learn.

We generally find the north Lakes is the best place to be in July and August to get away from the crowds (but don’t tell everyone)! That said we had a fabulous day out hiking from Grasmere last weekend. It was busy in the village but not too bad on the fells.

The fells are always a good place to escape people (if you go to the right ones) The fells around Keswick can get very busy. Although this year is exceptionally busy, I suppose due to all the ‘stay-cations’
